Running for a cause.

I think it is a privilege to be able to help out the community while doing what I love. Marathon events have always been well known for raising fund for needy communities and raising awareness on various topics. Marathon Des Sables is no different. MDS have been a great supporter of UNICEF.

I would also like to use this event as an opportunity to create childhood cancer awareness and raise funds for Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF). Marathons have always been a good platform to promote awareness, the Marathon Des Sables is no different. The race organiser works closely and contribute to UNICEF. Thus, I wish to share the spirit of UNICEF "to defend the rights of children", by organising a fundraiser for a local charity organisation CCF. I've been working healthcare/pharmaceutical industry long enough to know the financial drain that cancer have on its victim and their families

Since its founding since 1992, CCF has helped more than 2800 children and their families at different stages of the illness. The mission of CCF is to improve the quality of life of its beneficiaries through enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being. I hope to raise a minimum of $2600 ($10 for every kilometers clocked). I have attached the fundraising link to CCF’s donation page and also to my blog, which was created solely for this event. As the expenses of the event/trip are fully borne by my sponsors and myself, 100% of the gross donations will be donated to CCF. MDS and My story

5 years ago, if you asked me to run 10km, I would tell you that you're crazy. I could barely hold my breathe for 5km. I had clinical depression from 2013-2015 and I was also a heavy smoker. The only form of exercise that I get was moving out from my room to the toilet. One day on June 2013, a friend suggested that I should take part in the Standard Chartered Marathon instead of slouching and wasting away my life. At that point of my life, I felt I was truly rock bottom, and no suggestions seems crazy to me at all. In fact if anyone asked me if I wanted to bungee jump or skydive, I would have probably said yes too. So I signed up for the SCMS2013. What is the Marathon Des Sables?

Marathon Des Sables (MDS), is a self-sufficient multi-stage ultra marathon across the southern Morocco Sahara Desert. It's a 260km run across 6 days meaning you are running an equivalent of a marathon each day. While the route changes slightly every year, the total distance remains relatively the same. It was also considered the hardest footrace by many ultra-runners due to the extreme weather and terrain that is the Sahara Desert. The race test even the fittest athletes to their extreme. I've read stories about people who not only overcome hardship and achieving the immpossible but also forging unforgettable friendshipl. This is truly a place were people's race, nationality and ethnic were stripped bare. We were just merely humans trying to survive to the end.
